VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR GREAT TRUCKEE MEADOWS COMMUNITY CLEANUP
Get Outdoors this Mother\'s Day Weekend
With the cleanup just over two weeks away, volunteers are still needed to help clear trash and pull invasive weeds from outdoor recreation areas during Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's 5th annual Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup on Saturday, May 8 from 8:30-noon. Sites that especially need volunteer help are the Dorothy McAlinden, Eagle Canyon, Sun Valley and Hidden Valley sites.
All volunteers will receive a souvenir water bottle, snacks at the cleanup site, and a thank you lunch courtesy of Save-Mart Supermarkets and Pepsi immediately following the cleanup at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
Volunteers may sign-up and choose a location by visiting Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's website at www.ktmb.org or call (775) 851-5185.
"The Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup is a great event for the whole family," says Christi Cakiroglu Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Executive Director. "What better way to create a sense of pride and community than to help cleanup our own backyard?
Because the focus of the Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup is to clean up our recreation areas, this is not a free dump for residential waste. All accepted residential waste can be taken to Lockwood Landfill free of charge Thursday, April 29 – Saturday, May 1.
Partners and sponsors instrumental in making this cleanup a success include Washoe County, the cities of Sparks and Reno, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, Waste Management, and others to identify the most pertinent sites and coordinate volunteers. The Truckee River Fund, Sun Valley General Improvement District, Hobey's Casino/Restaurant, Nevada Land Conservancy, Truckee Meadows Weed Coordinating Group, American Auto Wreckers, Bridgestone-Firestone, Tires Plus, CleanHarbors Environmental, Green Genius, Fresh Energy Bakery, Wilkes Radio, Nevada EcoNet, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, Nevada Blue, Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, Sparks Chamber of Commerce and New Belgium Brewery.
