24th Pancake Breakfast & Open House with Sparks Fire Department

~Food, Fun, Displays, & Fire Station Tours ~

Join Sparks Fire Department for a great pancake breakfast & open house as we kick off National Fire Prevention Week, Saturday October 5.  Drop by the main fire station – 1605 Victorian Avenue – between 08:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon for Pancakes, Ham, Eggs, and more served by our own city leaders and firefighters.  Have fun, enjoy a great breakfast, and learn about the many ways Sparks Fire Department helps keep us all safe.

Unattended cooking is the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries.  NFPA chose the 2013 Fire Prevention Week theme – “Prevent Kitchen Fires” – to raise awareness of the need to practice safe kitchen behaviors and give folks the recipe for kitchen safety.  We will also continue to promote our Project SAFE – Survive A Fire Emergency by educating the public about residential smoke alarms and emergency evacuation plans.

Bring your family to discover the many services firefighters perform for our community and tour the fire station.  Meet your local Firefighters, watch a live vehicle extrication and High-Angle Rescue, take a picture with Sparky the Fire Dog, and try your luck at a raffle.  We may even have another special local Mascot appearance for the kids. You don’t want to miss the unveiling of our new Fire Safety Education Trailer.  Proceeds generated support local fire prevention activities and victims of fire.  Prices haven’t changed over time – Adults $5; Children & Seniors $2.  FREE PARKING & SHUTTLE SERVICE PROVIDED:  Park west of the theater on “C” street at Victorian Plaza; Look for the “Boys and Girls Club” Shuttle….

Kick-off Fire Prevention Week with us on Saturday, and learn simple steps to protect yourself and your home.  Remember that September 30th through October 6th is the perfect opportunity to “Bring home” life-saving messages – Literally.  One home fire starts in the U.S. every 80 seconds, with eight out of every ten fire deaths happening at home.  Learn how to prevent home fires and take action!

Get more information from the Sparks Fire Department Prevention Bureau online at www.sparksfire.com (just click on “Prevention”), or by phone at (775) 353-2266.
