It’s how we kick off our holiday season. Come downtown for a traditional Christmas parade along with entertainment, photos with Santa, arts and crafts and a tree lighting ceremony. Tree lighting ceremony on Friday night and the parade on Saturday at 1pm. Enjoy great Christmas shopping (and get out of the cold) at the Hometowne Craft Faire in the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, Victorian and Pyramid Highway. Register as early as July 6.

Family Fun on Thanksgiving Day 

The Scheels Turkey Trot at the Sparks Marina has become a Thanksgiving tradition in the Truckee Meadows. It's a great place to spend time with family and friends, and a healthy way to start a day usually filled with a whole lot of eating! Download the entry form here or register online at

Registration schedule:

Online Registration - thru November 19, $25; November 20-22 (11 a.m. on 11/22), $30; 

Sparks Parks & Recreation office - thru November 19, $25. Office hours: M-TH 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Scheels - thru November 19, $25. Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Scheels Pre-packet pick-up/Registration - November 23-25, $40. Hours 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Race day, November 26, $60 (cash only).

New this year! Dress up in a fun Thanksgiving outfit for our inaugural costume contest. Best three individual costumes will be selected.

The Thanksgiving Day event starts and finishes in the parking lot of Scheels at Legends at Sparks Marina. Participants can choose from a 10K (6.2 miles) run (timed) or a a 2-mile walk or run (not timed). The courses are user-friendly for both runners and walkers. The 10K race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will utilize city streets and the local bike path. The 2-mile run/walk will start at Scheels and circle around the Sparks Marina Park. 

Every runner and walker receives a commemorative long-sleeve souvenir shirt, fruit and refreshments. Proceeds benefit Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for local beautification projects and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund.
