A new holiday event will take place in downtown Sparks on December 11-12, hosted by 39 North Downtown and the Nugget Casino Resort. The 39 North Pole Village will be a family-friendly, winter wonderland-themed event. The street will be decorated with thousands of lights, and shopping booths and food trucks will also be on site. Sparks Annual Hometowne Christmas Celebration
Come downtown on Saturday, December 5, 2015 for a traditional Christmas parade along with entertainment, photos with Santa, and arts and crafts. This year’s theme is “All Aboard The Hometowne Express!” Parade goers can expect whistle stops, box cars, train engineers, and Santa bringing up the caboose.

Saturday, December 5, 2015, 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Come down early and get hot chocolate compliments of Living Stones Church. Check in on Santa at Santa’s Village at the Schoolhouse, while the elves at the Boys and Girls Club keep Santa in the “ho-ho-ho” mood.

If you are coming to the parade, please note that with the construction of some surface lots and less access to lots around the old Silver Club, there are less places to park. Please plan ahead to arrive early to find a spot. The area around the construction, along with the street parking on C Street from 15th to Pyramid and the staging area are not available for street parking. Please use the parking garage by the theater and the garage on C Street.

Ugly Sweater Run
Scheels is kicking off the parade day with an Ugly Sweater Run, 2 miles around the marina for fun and giggles. The “Ugly Sweater Run” will be held at Scheels on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00am. Registration is available at Scheels Customer Service Desk. The fee is $20 or New Toy Donation - 100% of the proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.
Art Exhibit at Sparks Heritage Museum
Hometowne Sparks Artists, a group exhibition of 10 local watercolor painters, have a free exhibit is on display in the Gallery upstairs. They are open at 10am on parade day. The exhibit runs through Dec. 31. A special reception with hot chocolate and cookies will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. after the parade.
The train display and historic Glendale schoolhouse will be open and free to the public for tours beginning at 10am until the parade begins.

Sparks Fire Department 26th Annual Pancake Breakfast/Open House & 1st Alarm 5K Walk/Run
- Please join the Sparks Fire Department for a delicious pancake breakfast and fun-filled open house as we kick off National Fire Prevention Week, Saturday October 3. Drop by the main fire station between 08:00 am and 12:00 noon for pancakes, ham, eggs, juice, milk, and coffee served by our own city leaders and firefighters, for the low cost of only $5 for adults and $2 for children and seniors.
- An array of events will include a Live Kitchen Fire Demonstration, "Jaws of Life" Vehicle Extrication, Kids Fire Safety Puppet Show, Tours of the Fire Station, Raffle, and Static Displays.
- Parking for the event will be located at the west Nugget parking lot off of Victorian Plaza Circle. Free shuttle service will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Nevada - Look for their suttle bus.
For running advocates, please join our 2nd Annual 1st Alarm 5K Walk/Run prior to the Pancake Breakfast. Registration begins at 6:30 am in the west Nugget parking lot and the Walk/Run promptly begins at 7:30am. The cost is $35, which includes the walk/run and a ticket to the Pancake Breakfast. Swing your club for a good cause at the Sparks Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament, happening October 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Resort at Red Hawk on The Lakes Course. The entry fee is $100 per player. Hole sponsorships with signage are also available for $100 each.
Now in its 13th year, the Mayor's Cup features a four-person scramble format and plenty of fun with hole-in-one prizes and contests for closest to the hole and longest drive. Lunch and awards will follow play. Proceeds from this annual event benefit at-risk youth in the community who have limited access to recreational programs due to financial hardships.

This year marks the 19th annual youth fastpitch Triple Crown World Series. In 2014, 211 teams participated in the 16U/18U World Series-San Diego, CA. We anticipate 140 teams in the 2015 World Series- Sparks & Reno, NV. Teams participating in the World Series come form almost every state West of Colorado.
