Child Fire Safety Programs

MEETING FIRE FIGHTERS AND STATION TOURS

The Sparks Fire Department offers tours at their headquarters station located at 1605 Victorian Avenue, Sparks, Nevada.  The tour days are Monday through Friday from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Tours must be made a month in advance. The tour reinforces Stop, Drop and Roll, 911 and evacuation procedures. Children enjoy the visit to the fire station and receive special prevention material to take home. Note: Tours are subject to Fire Department confirmation.

FIRE SAFETY TRAILER

This unique educational program requires a guaranteed minimum group size of 30 children. Note: This program is for City of Sparks citizens only and the facility must be located in Sparks. Reservations/requests must be made with the Sparks Fire Prevention Bureau at least three weeks prior to your scheduled date. This program is subject to confirmation by the Sparks Fire Prevention Bureau.

The Fire Safety House is a 32 foot mobile trailer that students will be able to walk through a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom and spot fire hazards. The students are able to feel a "Hot Door" and located an emergency escape route. At the conclusion of the tour, the students will be able to exit via chain ladder as the Fire Safety House fills with a non-toxic smoke.

PRESCHOOL - PROGRAMS

The Sparks Fire Prevention Bureau offers for loan to preschool classrooms a program entitled "Learn Not to Burn". Each program includes curriculum guide of songs, illustrations, and short activities which makes learning fire safety fun and easy. Included in the packet is a cassette tape of original and catch fire safety songs. Borrow the program for up to three weeks and complete at least three of the fire safety lessons with your class. Once completed and returned, we will send you a Jr. Fire Marshal badge for each student in your class.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

One fun classroom program offered for loan is the "Smoke Detectives". This program includes a video, teacher's guide and student activity masters. Note: Each school library also has a series entitled "Shake, Rattle & Roll" concerning earthquake drills. This program was written by the same company as Smoke Detectives.
