After a 20+ year hiatus, boat racing is coming back to the City of Sparks with the debut of the Sparks Hydrofest event at the Sparks Marina on August 18-19. During this watercraft event, the dog park and fishing pier located on the south side of the park will be closed to the public from 12 p.m. on August 17 to 5 p.m. on August 19. Additionally, the City of Sparks is discouraging paddling or sailing of any kind during the event.
Originally racing at the Teglia Ponds (later re-named Paradise Ponds), the outboard hydroplanes and flat-bottomed runabouts will be churning it up at the Sparks Marina with speeds of close to 100 mph. The free spectator event is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.
